COURSE OUTLINE
Proficient level Course (Art 3 Honors)
In this course, the students will work on the development of their portfolio. The students will be asked to devote 6 of the required works to Breath. These 6 pieces should show a range of genre, media, and technique. The students should also show a strong understanding of the art elements and principles of design. The other 6 pieces should focus on their concentration. The students want to show growth within this work, and a strong personal voice. Each student will end the year with a portfolio review.
The Students will also be required to keep a process journal (sketchbook). This journal will become the student’s text book over the course of the year. The journals will be used to: critique other artist, research techniques, investigate art through various cultures, societies, and history, plan and research projects, practice techniques, assess their own work, take notes, and develop personal voice. The student will work up an idea in their process journals and present the idea to the instructor for approval. After discussing their idea with the instructor, they will either be given materials to get started, or go back to revise their idea until it is approved. Each quarter, students will turn in the following:
3 projects – Students will have about 7 class periods per project.
3 research workbooks – These are due on the first day of each new project. This
is where the students will research and prepare their ideas.
3 quick assignments – These are also done on the first day of each project. These are designed to allow the student the chance to experiment with different materials, techniques, and ways of working.
3 class critiques – These are done on the last day of the project. Students must earn checks during the discussion which will later translate into a grade.
Classes will be graded with the attached Assessment Criteria. The breakdown is as follows:
*All students will be required to keep a portfolio of their artwork in order to meet CMS proficiency levels.
